The guy spent the time and effort to figure out the protocol, design the device and test it. So I’m totally ok with him wanting to profit from it. That without talking of the copyright implications from Chamberlain’s point of view.
Seemed in his interview that he was careful about finding a different way to generate the security+2.0 rolling codes without recycling code from the opener so they couldn’t go after him for it. Of course when someone wants to get at you, they’ll just throw everything at you regardless just to waste your time and money.
If they are using AI and machine learning to block these API requests then lets use AI and machine learning to continuously call and complain to their customer support teams until they determine it is more cost efficient to fix the problem.
As someone with a MyQ garage opener with built in camera this is super frustrating. It is a nice opener otherwise.
Folks - Is there any cloud-based solution that can be integrated with HA to make this work? I have added the Myq integration with Ring, but you cannot open or close the door from that.
IFTTT seems to require a premium paid subscription.
Any other suggestions?
Unfortunately, no. No good cloud solution that is being approved by MyQ.
You cannot open using IFTTT either.
You can close only - Yup - Seriously MyQ? How twisted is that? This is the kind of company that actively / intentionally being unfriendly to users.
Or put it another way, to remove MyQ from the equation altogether, no matter how difficult or how simple it is, would still be a better solution than MyQ.
I bet this is a legal liability thing. They want to avoid situations where people who don’t really know what they’re doing do something stupid in their automations and then proceed to rage post on social media and/or sue Chamberlain or IFTTT because their garage door ended up open for two weeks and their house got ransacked while they were on vacation.
I purchased this a few weeks ago. Local control now and never been down
I tried with both Ring and IFTTT.
Ring just a solid no-go. The devices don’t appear in home assistant. Although maybe there is a way around that somehow.
IFTTT… Besides only being able to close the garage… I remember when IFTTT used let you create some automations. At some point they limited you to like 10. And now it’s 2. I’ve never really liked IFTTT either because it was always way too limited.
I’ve NDP poisoned my GDOs, and routed their outbound MQTTS traffic to a MITM proxy. trying to get sslstrip working with MQTT packets and just route that data right to my home assistant MQTT server. It would need IP tables configured to keep that traffic NAT’d permanently to home assistant which i keep in a separate VLAN, otherwise i’d need to keep the MITM running constantly
@CSharpFan Is this still working for you? Can you post the code example where you are inserting this? I have not had success with this method. Thank you
Did it work? What model did you get (Amazon link is discontinued)?
I appreciate all the effort to make this work. I thought of an alternative and wonder if anyone has investigated this approach. The HomeLink system used in cars provides a way to send an open/close signal to a garage door opener. I know there are HomeLink devices for the home, which makes me wonder if it’s possible to interface with one of those devices to send an open/close command, and use a physical sensor to detect if the door is open or closed.
Really like what I’ve read and learned about Ratgdo as an alternative to MYQ native support. I will read more about others experiences first before purchasing, but curious as to others thoughts about could MyQ attempt to block Ratgdo in the future too? I figured since its hardwired typical api blocking like they are doing via the web isn’t possible, thinking more legal.
Once again, another company turns openly hostile to standards-based home automation outside of their little ecosystem. Seriously angry that I bought Chamberlain this year SPECIFICALLY because it had HA integration and the company appeared to have some clue. I’d love to yank the money back and give it to some smarter company.
Never say never, but I would think it very unlikely for existing openers. They would have to find a solution that would not break existing wired wall panels or other Security+ 2.0 accessories. Even if they succeeded, the result could likely still be reversed engineered.
They could file a legal claim against the ratgdo dev, and no matter what legitimacy the claim they may or may not have, it would be David vs Goliath. If I were the dev, not sure I would want the headache, unless something like FSF decided to pick up the cause (doubtful). This would only stop sales though, not the tech itself. The source is open and schematics are available.
New releases could move to something like Security+ 3.0, but again, that would not impact existing openers.
My GDO just took a crap this week, and that is where I landed as well.
Would you mind PMing me as I am curious to what switches, sensors, etc. the integration exposes as well as any other recommendations on model, etc.
Genie is easier to work with as simple shorting will toggle the door.
I know they have more listed partners for Aladdin Connect, including SmartThings, but do we know if they are really better? Is the API published? Have they given any sort of official blessing? Or is the HA integration still reversed engineered and potentially subject to the fate?
I don’t really know. Hoping someone else has the answers.
I’m in the same boat as all of you. I used my Garage Door Opener and LA400 Gate, and now can’t.
I ordered a ratdgo (Backorder) and an OpenGarage (+ Security 2.0 Adapter) to test both. Installed the OpenGarage today and it was dead simple, and works great. Control and notifications are obviously instant now
I do wish it was a single box, but that’s something I could easily 3D print (Which I probably won’t, who cares?)
Some notes:
- It was literally 2 clicks to get it into HA and working, could not be easier
- The Security+ 2.0 Adapter is a modified Liftmaster button. It includes the original instruction sheet which confused me for a second, throw it out. All of the instructions are on the box.
- When I connected it to my WiFi, it showed 4 of each of my SSID’s, I guess one for each AP I have. This is the first time I’ve ever seen this happen, weird. I connected it to one, and when I eventually moved it out to the garaged it got moved to the closest AP as expected, so don’t worry about that.
- I did not have to configure the distance settings, it was just plug and play
Return the opener under warranty.
Who are you replying to?
I ordered a Meross and ripped out my MyQ integration. So far it’s working pretty well.
