Tracking an elderly relative

Hi,

I have a 90 year old relative who I monitor at home with home assistant and various sensors, all works well and very reassuring it is

He has a dorro 2040 phone paired with his hearing aids and he’s not really capable of using any other phone now (phone has mobile data enabled)

I don’t think the dorro has any way to share it’s broadband out via a bluetooth connected device

So now looking at him carrying additionally with him the smallest andoid device possible that has gps/sim card fucntionality, that can also take the companion app for tracking him on the HA maps screen

Can anyone recommend a device please, most now are just big screens?

Thanks

Smart watch?

Or possibly a different Doro phone?
There is a few with massive icons on the screen.
Not sure if that means everything is massive or it’s just the icons.

didn’t realise a smart watch could independently report realtime location data to ha (i assume with the right software) - time to do some research…

though i assume it would need some type of bluethooth connection to a phone to connect to the web over the bluetooth link

i’ll look if any dorro phone, has to be identical to the 2040 in button layout) has this functionality

thanks

I don’t have a smart watch myself, but I know there is a home assistant app for it.
So you need to figure out if it works, I’m don’t know.
I believe the watches has their own sim card.

At least with Wear OS (Android), it doesn’t. It’s been something people have asked for but it hasn’t been implemented yet with the HA app.

thats a shame as i think there would be a lot of takers for it

the ha is already running on an underused proxmox server so im just going to go down the airtag route, shame as i normally avoid anything apple

Thanks for tagging, glad you can work with my tutorial!
