Yes, I removed the entries in device tracker yaml file. Reboot hassio, it was repopulated and it than it worked again for me

Thanks for this advice, but won’t deleting my entire known devices yaml mean i lose the names I have customised for them, and then my automations that use those names will stop working?

Yes, but you can rename them once they get added back and reboot.
