Warning about "exclude" deprecated in history.yaml

I’m getting warning messages about “exclude” being deprecated in hisotry.yaml. I’m wondering if there is a way then to keep things from being included in history. As an example, my car reports back to Home Assistant. When I look at my dashboard(s) I want to see the current value, but have no interest in the history. As an example, the odometer constantly updates as I drive and that causes (or at least used to) cause the database to get huge because of all the discrete values.

Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions and advice.

Then exclude them from recorder.

Just to verify, if I exclude them from recorder, I’ll still be able to access the current value?

Yes, you will still be able to see the current status.

Yes. Only state history will be unavailable.

FYI, you weren’t actually excluding anything from your database before. Have a read of this:

Thanks much! I had recorder and history flip-flopped in my brain.

Will they still show in the logbook?

I’d excluded some from history because I didn’t need state, but was still useful to see they triggered a change in the logbook. I thought when I completely excluded from recorder it didn’t note what triggered changes in logbook either?

For example, I don’t care about the history of every automation on/off, but I DO care about whether it ran for debugging.

The logbook depends on the recorder.
