Was using Alexa new to Home Assistant

As someone with zero prior experience setting up AWS skills, Haaska was a bit of a hassle to set up, but I had it up and working over a weekend. It has required very little additional management to keep it running, maybe an hour or two over the past 2 years. How much management you need to do can vary depending on your preferences and how frequently you add devices. I try to minimize what is exposed to Alexa, so I manually include entities on an individual basis. That adds a couple minutes anytime I include a new device to work with Alexa. But I think it reduces the amount of time I spend scrolling through scenes on the Alexa app (which I hate with a passion). You can also just set your configuration to include all your desired domains, and leave it at that.
