My network is all Ubiquiti gear. The cable modem is supplied by the ISP, then it’s connected to a Dream Machine Pro, which is connected via 10gig to a 24-port Unifi switch. For WiFi, I have 4 WiFi 6 Long Range APs. I have nearly 200 connected devices, mostly on 2.4Ghz, no issues. At normal prices (when buying direct from Ubiquiti), the whole setup can be had for right around $1000 USD. I’ve since added a hard drive and several of the little “instant” cameras, as well as 3 doorbells. I’m not happy with the responsiveness of the streaming into HA though, so I’m feeding the RTSP streams to Blue Iris, and then going from Blue Iris to HA. Much better. Total with the doorbells, drive, and a handful of cameras included is ~$17-1800.
Use the ASUSWRT integration, if you want more detailed info from your ASUS router( AND router connected devices.)
Asus GT-AX-11000, OS = ASUSWRT
I bought a unit like this. Industrial Mini PC Firewall Appliance PC pfSense Router
I installed opnsense on It. You need soms basic knowledge about configuring a router but it works great and is very stable and get updates fast.
I needed a “stronger” system so i get fast speeds with VPN enabled. I have connected 2 wifi acces points tot this unit.
I am looking for moving from synology 2600ac combo router to PFSense: still need to find time for the switch.
I see no one is using Pfsense here: is there any reason for it?
Im super happy with my Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX11000
I was “looking” at it this December, but ended up with RT-AX68U, because the ROG Rapture is so D… ugly PS: im having it on a shelf in the Kitchen, wanted something “neat” there, thou from a high tech-design perspective the Rapture looks cool , but as im the only person in the household and no-gamer i settled with the “neat” look
EDIT: thou i guess the price also made a different
True, but with this one i blow all other wifi signals away needed in this busy area with lot of wifi signals
Actually I use opnsense these days. I ended up ditching ubiquity edgerouter for opnsense because it has direct support for wireguard.
Is opnsense better than Pfsense?
hehe, yeah thats a good point, thou i live on the countryside, in wooden-house, and 100m to nearest neighbor, and mine cover the whole house and fairly good signal outside on all verandas, recreation areas, im sure i also would have taken disturbance from other WIFI’s in consideration, if that was the case
No. It’s just a little different. Everybody has its own taste.
Oh … didn’t try because I thought it was not AsusWRT.
It works, but I am baffled a bit. It provides by far less information that the UPnP integration (have them now both). And many of the sensors are shown as “unavailable”…
Yes i actually also have both integration, but only use 2 sensors (uptime +external-ip) from UPnP, from asuswrt i use tracker, cpu etc, for additional options you have to enable telnet , as mention in the integration doc, and look at your entities(( as some sensors are disabled by default, you have to enable them , to be available), with telnet enabled you get access to the asuswrt(linux) via command-line ( Basically full control ), but there might be differences in our versions, maybe telnet-access has been removed in your router … most of all tracker enabled in asuswrt is nice(ip/MAC/hostname of all connected devices), you do that on the integration(configure) … but just “outofthebox”, you just get basics
Thanks, set it up for telnet (despite aclaimed securty concerns).
Still had hoped for more ignsights, but I guess my homes where just to high - room for future improvements
Nor sure what you mean, but as i said, you can control basically anything, that you can do in the Routers Gui, from HA i.e via triggers, automations etc.( only your fantasy/needs is the limit ) But yes the integration is not a “replacement” of the Routers GUI. … beside you get a direct link to the Routers web-interface, for manual-tasks
Just look what the FritzBox integration pulls up without me doing something. Maybe thats why I got greedy…
I’m using Eero, is there any home assistant integration for this router?
