Where are device names kept now

Some entity can be deleted that way and I have done that before. Unfortunately there is a disagreement between me and HA about what entities are orphaned and HA is holding the entities hostage
I have not figured out yet how HA decides when an entity is orphaned or not but in this case Configuration → Entities-> Show all does not show the entity in question.
I will double check but I did try that.

Restart when this happens. If an integration tells HA “This entity is good” it’s not orphaned. This process happens on startup or when an integration is integrated.

As mentioned in my previous post I got things working by first making an entity active (apparently HA doesn’t care what’s what if the entity is not active), then restarting HA and only then deleting is possible.

It’s more like “HA doesn’t know its not active”, it could just be an unavailable device or something that goes to sleep. It “knows” after onboarding (restarting) doesn’t pick it up again.
