Which smart home devices do you think are missing — or seriously lacking in good options?

Good Presence Sensor (Microwave).
Zigbee and with batteries.
Only one Chineese from now and waiting for the new aqara.
I think this is a needing.

One small thing would be great:

But not to switch and dim “stupid” lamps, but to control Zigbee (Matter etc.) lamps via automation. Just like a Smart Remote or Smart Button. So that the power to the lights is not switched off.

And the biggest dream would be, probably not technically possible, if the dimmer recognizes that the Zigbee network is not available and then switches to a kind of relay mode as a fallback, so that power on/off and thus the lamp could be switched on and off after all, without the none existing Zigbee for the time.

PS: This is something I would also like to see for wall modules.

After 5 years of smart homing I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of Zigbee anymore and I’m slowly migrating everything to Z-Wave.

Reason:
I have 70ish Zigbee devices ATM, and at least one of them acts up every week. My 40ish Z-Wave devices just work.

That, and with Z-Wave LR on the horizon I think Z-Wave deserves a LOT more attention.
So: anything Z-Wave, please

Especially:

  • Something like this battery powered presence sensor which would be PERFECT if it’d register not only illuminance, but temperature and humidity as well. I specifically like the fact that it doesn’t use button cells. Optional (!) USB power won’t be bad, either, though.

  • Flush-mountable light switches and outlets are an issue, at least here in the CE-world.
There’s Logic Group’s Matrix 55 which fits nicely in a standard 55m frame. Amazing, but overkill for simple use cases as replacing a dumb light switch.
For those simple cases, there’s Technisat’s 0100/9498 for example, which replaces the “innards” of a regular dumb light switch and re-uses the frame and plates.
It comes in two versions (single and double) and for 3 existing commercial switch programs.
Unfortunately, the firmware leaves MUCH room for improvement and they don’t seem to be willing to do something about it.
As for outlets, I still have to find one that fits.

  • Zigbee LED controller with contacts for traditional, dumb, toggle/rocker (not momentary/push) switches. There isn’t a single one like this on the market.
  • cheaper water monitor & shutoff, similar to the Moen Flo, but at a reasonable price (Flo is the most ridicolously overpriced device I’ve ever seen)

This would be nice. One that:

  1. Works well
  2. Zigbee
  3. Battery operated

The biggest obstacle most of us have is the toilet room. Typically no plugs in it and it is closed off with a door.

  • No-neutral smart switches

  • POE-powered sensors

Yes…same here: Toilet room is also my problem here. Aqara is releasing one soon but i think there is place for more options in the market.
