WTH: Why can't I nest energy consumption

I should be able to create a tree of which devices use energy from each other as to not double up energy consumption. For example I believe I should be able to set up this tree whole home energy consumption => energy usage on a circuit => to a smart switch => to a set of smart lights. All energy is tracked and can be reported as a percentage of the parent energy device. Can also be used to help remember which breaker is which device, and to see if there are any discrepancies.
