WTH- why cant i set up a dashboard for a specific user?

My Mother in law also uses the home Assistant app in my house. But When I was switching between versions of Dashboards. I couldnt set a default dashboard for her as a user.
I had to take her device and set that up for her. Would be Nice If I could adjust that in her user profile

Agreed. The way Home Assistant is used and administered is typically by one technical person on behalf of the rest of the household. Everything should be controllable by the admin with as little “can I see your phone again? I need to fix Home Assistant” as possible.

Why is it not possible to set a default dashboard for all my users that will always be displayed when first logging in (should be able to be changed per user later)?

It seems to be a long date feature request Set Default Dashboard for all users - #22 by seanomat

Should be very nice to allow admin to set a default dashboard for all or for specific users. I also need this feature

this feature will be a breakthrough! Wonder why this can be so hard? Home meaning family, family meaning also kids. you don’t give matches and gasoline to a 12 years old child!

I really hate to say this but this has been on the agenda since lovelace was introduced.

its very very unlikely that this will be addressed.

Creating a new user and then administrate what dashboards and menu items the user can see is a pain.

Either you need to go and un check every view for that user on every dashboard if you want that person to not see the everything.

First why not switch it so you need to add a person to dashboards instead of removing them or get the option to how you do this.
If you create a new dashboard it is hard to remember to remove the ones that does not should see the new dashboard so would be better to needing to add them instead.

Or why not build a fully UI admin for adding removing a user user groups and access to all menu items and dashboard in one place…

This is most likely in the works, as it’s part of Role Based Access Control. It’s not an easy thing to do, since Home Assistant wasn’t designed to do this from the start.
