Has anyone succesfully got a no neutral ZBMINI variant working in decoupled mode?
I have no neutral wiring at the minute, and naturally would be a pain to get neutral wiring involved
Make at least an effort to go through this very thread and you will even find a wiring diagram on how it gets done.
Sorry, I searched every post for the âno neutralâ variant and I couldnât find it. I will take a look again.
Thanks
Here is a repo that has custom firmware to support binding for a bunch of Tuya switches. Not sure if it has been posted. Has anyone tried it?
- Detached mode, e.g. switch doesnât trigger relay but only generates events via Zigbee
- Long press for momentary switches with configurable duration
- Router/EndDevice modes for no-neutral devices
Nice, didnât know this firmware is available now.
Gonna be useful for my no neutral switches
Holy shit ! This is exactly what i needed for a low-cost alternative to the zbminir2.
It works! Super easy too. I followed this instruction to update via OTA. Placed some files in the external_converters folder and added a line to the configuration yaml. tuya-zigbee-switch/docs/ota_flash.md at 292e4cd6899707184dd662084283bbc3160a2953 ¡ romasku/tuya-zigbee-switch ¡ GitHub
My avatto _TZ3000_4rbqgcuv turns up in the OTA panel now. New update was found and a couple of minutes later, voilĂ !
- output gen on/off cluster working with ikea zigbee lights
- detached mode working.
- switch type working
- fallback mode working (pres 10x on switch)
This works as good as the zbminir2 for a fraction of the cost. So happy as I didnât find any cheap, small relays with decoupled mode from tuya.
Got the avattoâs on aliexpress. It was 4.9 euro a piece to Belgium if you buy them as a bundle deal.

Thanks a lot !
Hi, where can I check the details on the fallback mode?
Can you reduce the number of clicks?
Shelly Gen4 relays, which support detached mode, now support ZigBee (as well as Matter over Wifi).
I am using some NodOn in wall Relais which meet these requirements.
I have installed one SIN-4-2-20 behind a regular double rocker (German Schalter) light switch (gira system 55). One channel directly switches a dump light and the other channel has disabled Relais (detached mode) and switches a direct binded zigbee light.
One SIN-4-1-20 is working in detached mode behind a regular light momentary switch (German: Taster) and is direct binded with some cheap âtuya likeâ zigbee relais from AliExpress.
Both NodOn devices are also regular paired with my home assistant instance with ZHA.
So it works with home assistant (automation, scenes etc.), and if no zha is available it is working âstandaloneâ (on/off).
I have configured the direct bind with use of home assistant HACS âzha toolkitâ.
the only thing that bothers me a little bit is the pairing/configuration through Bluetooth with their âNodOn connectâ.
Edit: corrected light switch type
Do Shellys also support direct Zigbee binding? Iâve flashed the Tuya-based Girier switch modules with custom firmware, and theyâve been working flawlessly. These budget-friendly modules seem to be the best optionâthey offer everything youâd typically want: quick re-pairing via five rapid toggles, detached relay mode, and direct binding support. Plus, they come in 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-gang versions, all in the same compact form factor!
Hi, could you please describe, how youâve configured the device to have detached relays? The app only offers me to update the device.
Thank you very much.
Shelly Zigbee support only currently exposes input clusters, so I donât think you can do the binding in the direction you want yet? They also expose a special RPC input cluster that letâs you control & configure the Shelly, but that is probably not what you need either.
I have checked the situation again and i am currently only have nothing attached on the relais. The relais doesnât work in detached mode like i though i have configured. Sorry for the wrong information.
When switch the wall light rocker, the âemptyâ relais is clicking and the NodOn is switching a light directly through zigbee.
I donât have any button to edit my original post.
Hallo Ferbulous, I am new in ZigBee connections and I am not sure about your diagram here. I mean, I got that the lamp must be connected outside the Sonoff and the switch, but if I connect the S2 (or S1) to the switch, should I also bring the âFaseâ to the switch outside the Sonoff to make the connection?
Whatâs Fase?
On the subject of ZBMINIR2, which has decoupled mode but does not have binding by default - if you want to do binding, there is I believe a (non-official) firmware now.
Hi
Iâm looking for the same thing as you for multiple days nowâŚ
Iâve found different things :
relay mode :
This is the classic mode for a switch. It works well but it prevent the smart light from having power all the time.
So you must trigger switch before triggering light on HA.
And it can be a problem for your zigbee network to have end device that go offline.
On the other end, if coordinator is down it still work and if smart bulb is dead, you can replace easily.
decoupled mode :
This mode is nice because you can power the relay and the bulb all the time so no more problem for zigbee mesh and no need for automation to trigger module before the bulb.
But if coordinator is down, the switch wonât work anymore, except if there is a fallback to relay mode.
And if your smart light is dead, you must edit your zigbee configuration to change the light or disable decoupled mode.
binding mode : another great feature. You can contrĂ´le the smart light even if the coordinator is down.
But if the smart bulb is down, you must change your coordinatorâs settings to add a new binding.
ââ
At first I was looking for the zbmini r2. The lack of binding mode is compensate by the fallback to relay mode (even if there is some delay).
There is the custom firmware for tuya switch. There is decoupled mode and binding but Iâm afraid with the Chinese switch.
For me the best device has decoupled mode and hardware fallback to relay mode (like 4/5 switch toggle).
Do you know another module that can fit ?
