I’m confused.

You say you are using docker, but your screenshot above shows you browsing /usr/local/lib/…?

How are you starting / stopping your docker container if you are not using the docker-compose?

HI Flamingm0e,

I was showing the python-openzwave folder for reference. I have installed Docker and Docker-compose as recommended by HA. I then installed HA based on the procedure define on HA. I did docker-compose down and up as recommended.

I get the same error but HA still says invalid

Thanks for all your help and support. I need to get it working, I am also thinking if I should move to HASSIO but I want HAdashboard which has more support on docker than HASSIO.

Where are you seeing these errors? What logs are you viewing?

could be that he needs to set the dialout group for the stick?

@dshokouhi, I have dialout group set as shown below unless I am looking at wrong thing.

If you didn’t add yourself to the group, then you aren’t in it.

That is not how you do it. You changed the GROUP on the device to your own group…you need to ADD YOUR USER TO THE GROUP

Awesome. You are a legend. Just added myself to the group. Now restarting HA to see the difference.

Still the same. Restarted HA from docker using command “docker restart home-assistant” that didn’t work so used sudo docker-compose down and up but still same error. :frowning:

OK. I feel like you are trying too many things at once and conflicting.

Get into a command prompt.

docker ps -a

What containers do you see?
Is your container even called home-assistant? or is it called ‘web’?

If you see ANY containers running kill them.

docker kill <nameofcontainer>

docker rm <nameofcontainer>

Then I want you to reboot.

After a fresh reboot, cd into the same place your docker-compose is.

sudo docker-compose up -d

sudo docker logs -f --tail 0 <nameofhomeassistantcontainer>

Your zwave is working.

So here is the problem, and it’s an issue with the documentation. I will submit a fix for this.

The docker instructions tell you to create a docker-compose file with a service name of ‘web’. This actually creates a docker container of ‘ha_web_1’ in your case.

Have a look at my thread over here:

You will notice the changes in the docker compose file that need to be addressed so you can call it by whatever you like.

So the issue is that it was ‘working’ in that one container stole the zwave device, and you were connecting to a different container and it was being denied access because it was in use.

You can actually hit CTRL+C to get out of the log. I just wanted to make sure we saw what we did.

I recently upgraded to a NUC and I found a really good way to map the USB Path to a physical device regardless of what port you plug it into by using the USB’s UUID. I blogged about it here. I hope this helps.
