Started into home automation in the early '80’s with BSR X10 modules and the first Serial interface CPM 390 I think it was called back then. Then the Enerlogic in the early '90’s.

Graduated to Insteon when it first came out in single band PLC only and started on Homeseer in the early 2000’s. Have been migrating to dual band Insteon as the old single band devices die off. I’m up to 30+ devices still in service but finding Homeseer Insteon problematic. Insteon coms reliability has been a challenge. I was hoping the mesh would make it more reliable.

Currently running HomeSeer 3 on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and the 2413U PLM with the M Sandler Insteon, DSC alarm panel and Sonos plugins. Finding it not as reliable as I hoped. Nothing more frustrating than coming home to a dark house and cold water so I run the Insteon Hub as a backup to keep the lights on and other timer based events running.

I’m looking for more reliability and the ability to customise… so as of early May 2021 I set up HA on a spare Rpi3B+ with a fresh 2413U PLM and plan to migrate to a Rpi 4 with 8G RAM when I’m comfortable I can get HA/Insteon working. Right now just looking to get basic Insteon entities working and some scripts running. Hit a dead end and a mental block. Just need to get past that and am looking forward to meeting other like minded HA/Insteon users who can get help get me started. I would hate to abandon Insteon and go Zwave as I’ve got a lot invested in Insteon.

I’ve never been a coder but once I have some examples of the basics I’m usually able to take it from there. I’m no spring chicken so I do a bit at a time and take breaks when I hit a dead end. Feel free to PM me if you are able to help.
