2 different Home Assistant MQTT topics in MQTT Broker?

Hello there,

just took a look into my mqtt setup with mqtt explorer and found this picture:

There are two homeassistant instances:
homeassistant
homeassistant2

My MQTT Addon has the topic homeassistant subscribed.

The Zigbee2MQTT Addon publishes under the homeassistant topic.

I had the whole thing setup “wonky” in the past, meaning the topic “homeassistant2” was in use about 6 month ago (because for some reason I couldn’t set the “homeassistant” topic).
But now I thought everything is sorted out, as shown from the config.

Where does the homeassistant2 topic come from?

Everything is working fine with my Zigbee devices.

How to get rid of the homeassistant2 topic? It seems to carry actual messages:

If an MQTT topic is “retained”, it will be there forever unless you actually delete it (see the trashcan button in MQTT Explorer).

I see, so deleting won’t have any negative effect on my Z2M infrastructure?

Shouldn’t the topic “homeassistant2” only have actual messages if “someone” publishes under this topic? The topic has messages from today.

shouldn’t, but you bet I would have a spanking new backup right before I toss that just to be sure…

I was brave and deleted the old homeassistant2 topic (after doing a full backup) and everything is still working, woohoo

Still don’t understand why the old topic had messages with recent timestamps :man_shrugging:
