2 identical Hue bulbs, only able to connect 1

Hi everyone,

Newbie to HA here. So far everything with HA has been really enjoyable, but now I have encountered my first problem I’m not able to solve by googling etc. Maybe I’m just terrible at googling…

And I don’t blame the problem at HA, but on Phillips Hue.

The problem:

I bought 2 Phillips Hue bulbs (same models) and I was only able to connect 1 of them to HA. I have HA (2022.5.0) installed on an Intel Nuc with a zigbee stick. I don’t have a Hue bridge or any other Hue products. The only 2 Hue products I have are the 2 bulbs. How do I put the Hue bulb in pairing mode so that it is discoverable to HA? I know I can use a Hue dimmer, but I don’t have one. I also know that I can use something called Hue Thief, but I don’t know how to install it on my Nuc (did I mention I was a newbie?). I also know I can use Amazon Alexa, but I don’t have any Amazon products. I installed the Alexa app on my phone, but did not find the option to reset Hue bulbs, probably because I need more Alexa products than just the app on my phone?

Is my only option to buy a Hue dimmer to be able to reset the bulb that won’t be discovered my HA installation? Seems so dumb if that is the case.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers

Factory resetting a Hue bulb can be accomplished in 5 ways. After resetting the bulb will automatically connect.

Thanks nickrout! I’ll go through this when I get back home. Quick question: Is this possible with ZHA or only zigbee2mqtt? Don’t bother to answer if I can find the answer in the link you have provided  I’ll take a look at it later. Cheers!

The touchlink factory reset instructions are specific to z2m, but there may be a way to do the same thing via zha.

My lights had bluetooth connection so I was able to connect the bulb to the Hue BT app and reset it and than I was able to connect to HA with zigbee. Thanks for the link!
