I am not an electrician but will be getting one to do any required work but want to be sure I’ve got the right kit ready in prep and also to ensure that I can do what I want to do with my current existing setup
So…as it stands…a 2 gang 2-way light switch when I enter the bedroom…one switch controls a bank of lights on each side of the room…at the bed…either side has its own dimmer switch which turns off each respective bank of lights and dims them too…
In my main switches, we have neutrals…not sure why our builder/electrician opted to do this but very glad they did as it has helped install Shellys in a 1-way circuit up till now.
So I have all of the wiring I need at the 2 gang switch but with all those cables in there it is incredibly tight and there is little to no chance of getting anything else into that back box…(but maybe as that is a partition wall I can pu tin a deeper box to facilitate this but again trying to do so wtih as little messa as possible)
At the dimmer switch end, there are no neutrals…just three wires which I assume is common, sw1 and sw2
So with the above info, is there anything I can have installed which will allow me to change the existing dimmer switch end (the switches will also get changed to standard 2-way light switches as light control will be done via smart bulbs, more than likely Zigbee)
of course, I am trying to make the changeover as simple as possible…
It appears a Shelly1L would have been the product for me but it’s discontinued so that’s no longer going to work…
Since you’re replacing the bulbs with smart ones, I’d recommend dimmer switches like inovelli but they haven’t released EU/UK version yet.
The aqara Z1 pro is your 2nd best option so you can decouple and bind to the zigbee lights.
Good luck finding that one. Seems to be available only in Singapore & Dubai.
@jouster if you’re happy to settle for a regular smart switch instead of one which is marketed as a dimmer, I’d suggest getting any switch which supports decoupled mode and multi-click/hold. eg. Most Aqara switches will support this (except hold).
That way you’ll have more options to choose from hardware wise. You’d have to dim via automations using scenes, so you’d lose granularity when dimming via the switch. However, if you find you’re only interested in a couple of dimming presets, that should be enough. You’ll still be able to have granular dimming using a HA dashboard.
Same. Never managed to order them from Taobao. Might have to use a VPN or something.
I’ve got a couple of them on the way from a work colleague in Dubai though. Hopefully they’ll be in my hands in early January so I can play around with them.
How do you out the z1 pro switches in pairing mode? I am using a couple without the neutral line but I am yet to figure out how to pair them to HA using mqtt.
