I was wondering if anyone tries this before. I would like to make my 2-way switch work after converting them to smart switch (non-neutral). My home switches do not have neutral wires. so the wiring will be like what i have drawn in the photo.
So the switch with wire connection will function as a normal switch even when there is no internet connection and the other wireless switch will have to configure using software to pair with the wired switch.
Just would like to confirm if this wiring configuration will work? And how do we know in real life which switch is connected to live and which one is connected to the light
Why not leave both switches in place, and install a wireless switch at the light fitting? If this is the UK (judging on grammar and timezone ) then your light fitting probably has live and neutral in it, so you could drop something like a Shelly 1 in there, controlling the light and taking the switch feed as an input signal.
I do not want to put more switches on the wall. I understand that adding the wifi module at the light will work. But was wondering if the wall switch configuration can work as well.
I assume you mean connected to “wifi” rather than “life”?
When you provision your switches you give them names, like switch.lounge_light_wired and switch.lounge_light_wifi. Provisioning one at a time you choose which is which.
I think s/he means “live”, referring to the first diagram where the LH switch is connected to live, and the RH switch to the light. Power off at the breaker and continuity test would be my solution.
2 traditional 2-way switches with one connected to live wire and interconnecting travelling wires and to another one connected to the light. The upper diagram.
It does not matter. Replace one switch. Short the other out (Live to any one - not both - of the travelling wires between switches). It will work if you short the one near the light or live.
Hi, I have similar situation with @kingh33 and curious about your suggestion to put the module on the light fitting. As I don’t have enough experience in terms electrical wiring, could you provide the diagram on how to do that? I couldn’t find any similar wiring for this 2-way 2-wire scheme to install the shelly 1 or similar module. The existing wiring looks like this:
Thank you. I’m interested on the single fire wifi module. But when I look at the integrations it seems that the module isn’t supported (based on this page eWeLink Home Assistant add-on github)
