2024.12 Crashes system for many users

Post I answered was about issue with AMP with 2024.12 which was quickly resolved, and that’s what I replied to…no idea what you are replying to me about :person_shrugging:t2:

I have 4 different HA installs mainly for testing and development, Supervised on Debian 12 on bare metal, Supervised on Debian 12 in VM, along with HASSOS installs on both bare metal and in a VM. Supervised on Debian 12 on bare metal is my main HA instance.
3 out of the 4 installs fail when upgrading to 2024.12.0 or 12.1. Tried many times. Trying to figure out what the difference is between the one the upgrades and the ones the do not.
I can roll back to core version 2024.11.3 using the command
sudo ha core update --version 2024.11.3 and all is well again.
So seems to me this is a rather important issue.

Several integrations broke after updating core 2024.12.2. Then I found this thread. Tried restarting my Home Assistant Green but wouldn’t come back up to restore backup. Pulled power and it came right back up and all of integrations looked good. My last attempt to apply this core update a few days ago resulted in the same and I restored from Backup to fix it. Guess I got lucky this time and I’ll research first next time before doing another update.

Here I’m facing the same… I’m trying to rollback to fix it

Same boat here with HA Green. Attempted rollback but eternal processing. Waited a week to update and been down nearly a week now

This happen to me on two installations, both running on x86-64, different installations, different add-ons, both were unusable after the update, the homeassistant container always died after some minutes and were impossible to restart.
I finally managed to put homeassistant on safe mode, and restore the last full backup.
BTW, the problem hit me when I updated to 2024.12.1, and my first attempt was to upgrade to 12.2 but the problem was still in there…

I have the same problems after updating to 2024.12.2.
Cyclic reboot.
No system recovery methods helped me.
After loading a backup copy of the system, it also reboots cyclically.

You will not get help in this thread.
From reading your posts it is clear they are not related to each other.
It is different underlying causes and you need to make your own threads and also look through the homeassistant.log and homeassistant.log.1 files in the config directory for any interesting snippets, which should be included in the post

Thanks for posting the actual rollback command. I’m also back to 2024.11.3 until 2024.12x issue is resolved.

i think i had this same problem just now but only when updating from 2024.12.2 to 2024.12.3. i rolled back to 2024.12.2 from VM backup.

I’m not getting crashes since updating to 2024.12.xx but all of my voice assistants stopped working. I have to go to settings voice assistant and say update to get them to connect when they are rebooted. I also have to use streaming wake word micro wake word stopped working on the esp32s. I’m going to roll back to 2024.11 tomorrow to see if this fixes it.

Alright so after deleting anything Zigbee related, as well as Wyomong and Eufy I’ve been able to update to 12.3. Deleted Wyoming because i updated Faster before the crash and also Eufy. Lesson learnt is don’t update Core in the first week and don’t update addons/intergrations unless something not working

My system went totally FUBAR. Restoring now for the fifth time and if I ever get it running again I won’t touch it no more, this hobby is dead to me now. During the last couple of years the updates are becoming more and more risky. It was only a few months ago an update totally killed my server - and now again. This is not working…

Had many problems with this for 2024.12.1-3, always the same issue. However, I took a closer look at the logs after a failed boot (stuck at “loading data”), and it turned out one of my custom integrations installed from HACS caused these errors. In this specific case, it was “lovelace_gen”.
I suggest taking a look at the logs with ha core logs after logging in over SSH and see if anything pops up.

Get yourself a server where you can virtualize the whole HAOS like in Proxmox. Then you can backup the whole VM in like 1-2 minutes.

No matter how hard an update failed, with a full VM backup youbwill be back running in a few minutes without a hazzle.

Then lean back a few days until the problem is fixed.

wow… i am actually kind of surprised. I have done updates in the past where a thing or there might not work because something needs updated or a config needs changed. But I am now HOURS into the 2024.12 updates. Integrations aren’t loading. Basic stuff like recorder wasn’t loading. All custom integrations from hacs seem to be failing as they aren’t installing requirements. I don’t even see how you can tell an integration to reload now. Which is odd.

Im surprised the 2024.12 release seems to be so troublesome in sooo many different areas. Usually the updates are much smoother.

I had issues going from 11.3 to 12.5 - mine turned out to be an problem with Dwain’s dashboard 3.6.0
