2024.9: Sections go BIG

Again, how do expect the Section to be bigger (ie: to match the big Section next to it) if you only have ONE CARD in the small Section??!?!?!?!?!?

How is my example not per your box demo? I have one Section matching your big box and two next to it matching part of your small boxes…

How is a Section supposed to be big if you put one little standard sized Tile Card in there?

Putting mot !?!?!?! to your sentence don’t make it more senseful. Don’t get, why you are not getting the topic. But I will stop the discussion here. My pictures above are clear and not related to your example.

I totally understand what you are saying… And…

The section height is determined by the sum total height of the cards inside the section and row height is determined by the max height of any given section in a row… (this is what Dave is saying)

And x number of sections are allowed horizontally in a row. (settings)

Then. Start new row. (this is the important part… Complete the row, then new row, that section at the bottom will not flow up into the blank space. It’s simply not designed to do that. It’s in the next row and can’t skip up to the row above…

What you want essentially merges the two rows (vertically) in the first column and has the rows unmerged to the left (easy to do in excel, this is not excel).

Easy in css grid, as far as I know the is NOT currently possible in sections.

You can add row_span: 3 on your first section. That should work.

Also, you can achieve your design with only 3 sections and use heading card to separate your « subsections ».

Thanks. Fantastic. Really thought, that it is not already available/working. But yes, it is working as wanted and expected.

Here with row_span: n+1, then the empty cells are maximizing and only let the filled the needed space. Wanted here.

But wit row_span: n, it is working as expected as well, where the “parallel”-rows are equily distributed.

At least not as wanted. My reuirement ist, that the rows in column 2 and 3 are still top-aligned. And this is not possible in this way.

Just curious - Are you trying to make a sidebar layout?

No. I have several pages with very long entity (auto entity) cards or logbooks, which I don’t want to restrict. And if I fill only the colomns next to them, they are as unstructured as in mensory before. And not e.g. top aligned where I want. For this the row-span is really helfull and wonderful.
