2025.2 Beta Backup changes

For your example/situation, the best option would be to just set up a custom time it runs instead of the system optimal time. It does work as I expected, which means if you would like to have it go when your Synology is on you’ll need to configure all of them to do the same.

I don’t think that’s exactly what you want, so I believe that this may be something for a FR.

The linking has been fixed on 2025.2.0b2 .

Yep, connecting works now.

Yeah, linking now works, and if I check in my OneDrive folder the folders are created in /Apps/Home Assistant/ and the backup is also uploaded. HA gives an error about the upload failing though.

Thank you for fixing the backup naming convention!! :heart:

wrote it up here Allow separate backup schedule per location

or do you want multiple automated backups to be scheduled, where you can specify the location per automatic backup,
but for instance also choose to select different add ons.

personally I dont need that, and I figured to keep the request as simple as possible :wink:

suppose what you ask could/would be very relevant for others, so the might be worth the trouble of a separate FR indeed

the 2 features wouldnt hurt each other

have you planned a backup on google drive?

on your 2025.2 Beta Backup changes - #42 by Mariusthvdb

i don’t find google drive

@MissyQ Maybe a special request:

I believe it would be very practical to have the available core integrations for backup listed and linked in the main Backup documentation at Backup - Home Assistant

Onedrive, Google Drive and Synology come to mind, I am not sure if there are more (I only use these 3…)

Would this be something you could take to the docs team?

o sorry, I didnt realize the ‘you’ in your post was ‘me’ :wink: I figured you spoke to the HA team/missy there

No I dont use Google in my core HA backup system. For now I use the amazing custom add-on by Stephen Beechen.

However, I plan to stop using Google for backups, and save me a few extra bucks for the required extra gb’s., now Ha core has all the options I would need.

…save me a few extra bucks. .i get 15G disk space for free…sufficient for my partial backups (without the MEDIA directory)

Small request, Could this thread be pinned until the beta is complete?

@Mariusthvdb
is it possible to set retention per destination?
I mean, I have use for 100 local copies,
1 on NC cloud,
and 30 on onedrive.

or is it just 1 per external itegration

no, I believe we can set all the options, and assign several locations with those options.

retention is set for all locations you have selected in the automatic backups config.

but do join the beta and give it a test run yourself

Being to able to specify the retention by location would be great - so I can keep more copies on my local NAS and only the last few externally.

That’s what I asked above.

Automatic backups only allows one general configuration.

if you’ll have special feature requests, you should really write them up, so it can be tracked.

only mentioning here wont really help, because the team doesnt follow the community posts.
I suppose even now Missy is listening in here, writing up FR’s is still the best thing to do
