24V led strip dimmers

Hi,

My living room and two of my bedrooms have 24v led strips as the main illumination source, as you can see in the pictures below:

I have 11 independent circuits from 1 to 8 meters long using 24v power supplies from 36 to 180 watts, all connected the traditional way: 240v to the power supply controlled by regular switches on the wall and 24v from its output directly to the led strips.

I would like to be able to switch on/off and dim each independent circuit independently on Home Assistant. I know the power supplies need to be on 24/7 and wiring needs to be redone so that the switches do not cut power to the power supplies but rather control whatever dimmer I’ll use on the 24V part of the circuit.

Most of my devices are Shelly, so it seems RGBW2 in white mode (4 independent white strips) is the right choice for the job, but there are some limitations I’m seeing here:

  • Each channel can only support 90W at 24V (and I do have individual circuits over that)
  • The device only supports one external switch, so I would need to use one device per individual circuit and not use the 3 extra outputs, which seems a bit overkill for me

So, my question is: which device (doesn’t have to be Shelly) would you recommend that allows me to:

  • Control each individual circuit on/off on both the physical switch and Home Assistant
  • Control each individual circuit brightness on Home Assistant

As a control device you can use Shelly i3. It is just control unit, without any switches or dimmers inside. It has 3 inputs that can be configured for multiple actions:

  • button off
  • short push
  • long push
  • 2x short push
  • 3x short push
  • short + long
  • long + short

So I can imagine with right set of automations you should be able to set scenes, directly control brightness of your LEDs etc.
Regarding power output… I’m not electrician, but can be 2 outputs from Shelly connected (and controlled) in parallel to give summarized output of 180W?

I really would like to keep existing switches connected directly to any dimmer I will use, for instance, the Shelly RGBW2, to be able to turn on/off the led strips even if there’s a problem with Home Assistant. For now, I don’t want to add any dimming capabilities to the physical switches.

@MarcoAlmeida Did you end up figuring this out? I have the exact same problem regarding the oversized LED strips and 90W power output per channel. Did you end up connecting the big LED strips to 2 channels and then combine them?
