3D Floor Plan Alternatives to Sweet Home 3D – Tool or Service Recommendations?

Hey everyone!

My family will be visiting in a couple of weeks, and I’m trying to make their stay as smooth as possible with the help of Home Assistant. I currently have over 150 devices in my setup, and while not everything is relevant to them, I want to make sure they can easily control key things like:

  • Lights
  • Curtains
  • Air conditioning
  • See temperature/humidity readings

The catch is: they won’t know what any device is called or what room it’s in. So I’m planning to build a simple, guest-friendly dashboard they can use. Ideally, I’d love to include a visual floor plan where they can just tap a room or a device without needing to know the entity name or where it’s located.

I’ve been using Sweet Home 3D to create a basic floor plan and export an image, but even getting a good quality render takes me 20–25 minutes per revision. It works, but it’s time-consuming.

So, a couple of questions:

  1. Are there any other tools or 3D visualizers (apart from Sweet Home 3D) you’d recommend that are faster or more efficient for this kind of use case? What are the trade-offs?
  2. Has anyone here paid for a professional 3D model of their home and integrated it into their HA dashboard? If so, any tips or service providers you can recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

FreeCAD.

(Don’t pelt me with tomatoes pls)

I was looking for something similar any suggestion would be much appreciated

Thank you for the recommendation! To my knowledge, FreeCAD doesn’t have an in-built furniture library. Did you get it from somewhere else? Moreover, I am also curious to learn what made you pick FreeCAD over SweetHome3D)?

BIM workbench is quite OK. Models are often available online as STLs / meshes.
