A Misclassified "switch."

I have a Z-Wave dimmer outlet from Minoston. It’s kind of the ZWave equivalent to the Insteon LampLinc Dimmer Plug. The LampLinc identifies itself in HA as a light. The Minoston identifies itself as a switch, but I’d prefer it to be identified as a light, since that’s what it controls. (Shouldn’t all dimmers be assumed to be lights anyway?)

Is there a way to manually change the Minoston from a switch to a light? I think I could use a template light, but honestly I’m new enough that every tutorial I’ve read/watched on templates just ends up confusing me more. And wouldn’t that mean I had to create two devices for every Minoston dimmer I installed? The initial one that identifies as a switch, then manually create a second one with the template light process? It seems like a lot of work…

Hopefully I’m missing something easy.

What is the device exactly? If it’s a switch entity, then it’s not likely to be a dimmer.

It’s the Minoston MP21ZD Zwave Mini Plug Dimmer. It has one 3-prong outlet that you can plug into, and a button on the side, so it looks like a switch. But it is a dimmer as well, can set brightness levels for whatever is plugged into it, etc. The documentation and advertising is not very clear that it operates as a dimmer. I had to buy just one at first to test it out, and it does indeed work as a dimmer.

Just to confirm, are you using the Z-Wave JS integration with the Minoston?

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!

Light Switch is meant to “convert” actual on/off switches to light entities. It won’t give you the ability to set brightness.

That’s what the docs say
