I recently got my first Aeotec Multisensor running in conjunction with a Z-Wave stick.
Only issue I found is that it doesn’t have sufficient range because my HA ProxMox Server is at the rear of the house and I wanted to originally place the sensor in a living room located at the front of the house.
For now i’ve just placed it in the kitchen for testing, but I noticed in the node information that it talks about neighbours and it makes me think that it probably creates a mesh network of some type.
Does this mean that if I place Z-Wave devices between the front and rear of the property that they will effectively act as repeaters, thus increasing the range of the network?
Z-Wave is a wireless communication protocol designed for home automation. It uses a low power, and low bandwidth, mesh network that allows devices that aren’t within direct range of each other to communicate indirectly, via other nodes. Any device that’s permanently powered (not battery powered) will help build the mesh, if you don’t have enough powered devices, or you locate these poorly, your mesh will be unreliable.
The key thing is that only the non-battery powered devices build the mesh.
Thanks - handy to know. Thankfully locations like the kitchen and living room can both use mains powered sensors so I should still be good to go.
Only issue i’m having right now is that changes to the sensor state don’t seem to be getting reported. Is there something I need to configure to have changes reflected more quickly?
Hello,
I got one of these Aeotec Range Extender 7’s. I’ve got a ConBee 2 stick that is working well with a bunch of Samsung Smartthings sensors. I have tried various durations of holding the reset button as instructed on the extender, but can’t get the device to show up when I do an add-device via the Zigbee integration page. Do you have any suggestions? (I am running HASS 0.115.3)
