A tricky WLED device (GLEDOPTO GL-LB-003)

Bought a GLEDOPTO GL-LB-003 off Aliexpress (link) as it has WLED installed. Woo hoo!

But alas… the device ships with WLED-SR 0.13.3. The HA WLED integration requires 0.14+. This is where the problems begin…

The Aliexpress listing page has a banner in red that reads " The chip of this controller is ESP32. Please carefully confirm the chip version information of the firmware before upgrading. Incorrect firmware upgrades will cause product damage." However, I decided to try my luck.

What I found was that, in short, the successor to WLED-SR is WLEDMM. I tried this firmware – WLEDMM_14.5.0-beta_esp32_4MB_M.bin . This works, but is not sound-reactive on this device.

I then went back to the WLED-SR versions, which cap out at 13.4. This file – WLEDSR_0.13.4_esp32_4MB_M.bin – put me back in a working state.

I then decided to try the “normal” WLED, version 0.15. I downloaded this file – WLED_0.15.0_ESP32.bin – and this hosed my device. I opened the device to find that the USB cable provides power-only, so it seems that the only way of recovery would be to solder connections onto the ESP board. This is beyond me – what I posses in software skills I lack in soldering skills.

I tried to contact GLEDOPTO to find out what firmware I should use – no reply.

Does anyone have this light bar? Any advice on what firmware works? Ultimately my goal is to integrate this device with HA.
