Probably the most infuriating thing I find when doing dashboards is how things move about on different screen widths.
So for example, I sit at my PC and design what I think is a nice looking dashboard for my tablet, then go downstairs to my tablet mounted on the wall only to find sections are moved around and not how I want them.
So, I go back upstairs and make some adjustments, go back downstairs and see it’s not right, go back up stairs and repeat and repeat…
You get the idea.
Couldn’t we have some option when editing a dashboard that we tell it the physical screen width of the device we are thinking of displaying it on so we can see how it will be displayed on the target device, to save all this pain?
You will find it easier if you resize your PC window to match the tablet so that it lays out the screen in the same way. It’s a bit hit-and-miss partly due to screen resolution, but depending on the tablet, you may be able to match that too. This is not a perfect solution, but it certainly helps.
Alternatively, connect a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to the tablet and do the design there.
I also find with the sections layout the only significant difference between tablet and PC is the number of columns that fit, so cards don’t move around as dramatically as the old masonry layout.
Yes, guess I’ll need to demount it from the wall and attach peripherals to it as you say - bit of a pain but there you go.
Would be nice if we could just say when editing a dashboard, it’s for example 1920x1080 screen so show me what it would look like with that resolution.
Developer Tools in both Chrome and Edge have the ability to set the resolution to common phone and tablet resolutions, in fact they have built in templates for common devices as well as the ability to save your own template for something exotic.
