Abode Power Tariffs — a source of truth for your electricity tariff (RC1)
Hi all,
I’ve been building Abode Power Tariffs, a custom Home Assistant integration for households with anything more complex than a single flat electricity rate, and it’s ready for wider testing: RC1.
What it does
You describe your tariff once — the plan, when each rate applies, any demand charges or allowances, whether you export power to the grid — and the integration publishes:
- the price in force right now, for import and export, with a forward-looking forecast other automations can plan against
- which rate is currently active, and when it next changes
- daily supply charge accrued so far, and for the billing cycle
- demand and allowance tracking, per rate, where your tariff has them
- a repair alert and a red flag on the device if an input it depends on stops being readable, or if a plan runs out with no successor — so you’re never quietly working from stale or incomplete figures
It’s built as a system of truth, not an accounting system: it reports what your tariff says is true right now, rather than trying to reconcile a bill. Anything it accumulates — a demand ledger, an allowance — exists only to answer “what’s the true cost at this instant,” and it says plainly that it’s an estimate, not a bill reconciliation.
It’s designed to support things like:
- EV chargers or battery systems that want to plan ahead using the price forecast
- Home Assistant’s own Energy dashboard, via an optional
utility_meterhelper the setup flow can create for you - dashboards that show your day’s rate schedule as a coloured timeline
Import and export are both first-class — same shape, same features on each side — for anyone feeding power back to the grid under a time-varying feed-in tariff.
What it doesn’t do
It never controls anything. It’s read-only reporting, with one narrow exception: writing the current tariff name to a utility_meter select helper you nominate, so Home Assistant’s own energy accounting can split consumption out by rate.
Where it’s at
This is a release candidate — the integration has been running in my own Home Assistant setup, and the automated test suite (500+ tests) covers the pricing, allowance, and demand logic against real Home Assistant, not just hand-written stubs. What I haven’t been able to exercise widely is the breadth of real-world tariff shapes people actually have — different countries, different billing structures, different demand/allowance combinations.
That’s what I’m hoping this community can help with: install it, set up your actual tariff (or a test one close to it), and tell me where it doesn’t match your bill or doesn’t make sense.
Installing
Click the button below to open HACS and add the repository directly:
Or add it manually: HACS → three-dot menu → Custom repositories → repository https://github.com/meremortals70/abode-power-tariffs, type Integration.
Then find Abode Power Tariffs in HACS, download it, restart Home Assistant, and add it via Settings → Devices & services → Add integration. Config flow only — no YAML.

Known limitations are listed in the README. If you hit something not already listed there, that’s exactly the kind of report I’m after.
Thanks for taking a look.
