As the title says, I’m about to dive into the wonderful world of HA, but I’m trying to figure out how I can leverage some devices currently attached to my alarm panel. I’ll to try to keep the backstory as brief as possible for this, so here goes:
My current home automation is comprised of 2 main components.
QOLSys IQ Panel 4 - through Alarm.com via SuretyDIY, monitored system. Various door and window sensors, smoke/rate of rise heat detectors, ADC doorbell camera, and around 12 home automation devices, all Z-Wave, including door locks, light switches and plug-in outlet switches. Used as monitored alarm system (obviously) and several automation routines around the z-wave devices. All alarm and heat sensors would remain with the panel along with the doorbell.
SmartThings Hub - Used to control Home Theater automation (drapes, light switch, rgb lights, and an outlet switch. All z-wave devices. Integrated (formerly) with Logitech Elite theater remote.
Ok, backstory done. The short version of what’s prompting this is that Logitech and SmartThings stopped playing nice together, and Samsung ticked me off by killing WebCoRE, so I’m going to start by putting the HA Green in place of SmartThings to control my theater. But ideally, I want to monitor/control the other z-wave devices currently attached to the QOLSys. QOLSys does not do well working with secondary controllers or working as a secondary. I think I can count on 1 hand the successful cases I’ve found on various message boards.
For most of the device automations, I could probably just remove the devices from QOLSys and pair them to the HA as they’re just time based. However, there are a few automations that rely on alarm states or ADC specific automations, so I’m trying to determine if I can recreate them using the integrations.
Lights on disarm - When I disarm the alarm after sunset, the hall lights turn on for 5 minutes. If I’m reading right, in theory I could get the disarm event from the QOLSys integration and act accordingly, but the integration itself doesn’t seem like a cakewalk, and I can’t tell how quickly those events trigger. I can’t tell if the ADC integration would help with that or not. Is this doable? Is there a delay in the event notification from the integration?
Porch Light On Person Detection - As it says, if the doorbell camera detects a person after sunset, turns on porch light for 5 minutes. This one I’m struggling with any way to accomplish via HA without replacing the camera and getting in to frigate and such. Is there anything that would allow me to move the light switch to be paired HA and still have ADC trigger the lights when a person is detected? Or is this just at least 1 device I’d have to leave connected to the panel and not control via HA? Or for that matter, could I leave it on the panel and still control it via HA through the ADC integration?
Lock Doors on arm - Door locks all lock on arm. Instantly on arm stay, and after exit delay on arm away. This is more of a nice to have than anything as I can’t think of any other automations I’d need on that so I could leave the locks paired to QOLSys, but figured it’d be worth investigating.
