About to install HA supervised, is this OK to do on Debian 13 aka Trixie?

Hi,

I did check the requirements for HA supervised here:

It states:

  • Debian Linux Debian 12 aka Bookworm (no derivatives)

However the current stable version is Debian 13 aka Trixie?

https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/

I’m about to do a fresh install on a machine, and I thought it would be best to use the current version of Debian, but if there are issues with the Supervised install then I can look into other options.

Thanks!

With Ha supervised (and ask yourself do you REEEEEEEALLY need supervised…).supervisor gets angry if it doesn’t see what it expects so I’d DO EXACTLY what is in the build doc.

Especially if it calls out a specific kernel and explicitly says… No derivatives…

Hello Codec303,

Supervised and Core will no longer be supported with official updates after 2025.
You MAY regret using this method.

Thanks for the replies and info, I didn’t realise that Supervised will no longer be supported, but that would explain the lack of support for Debian 13

I didn’t have much luck the the HomeAssistantOS last time I tried it, so I may just go with the container method instead.

I just installed another Supervised HA (only Orange Pis around here, so this is the only option to get addons) and curiously Bookworm is already NOT supported, only Trixie…

Regards.

So what is the state of Supervised these days? I’m thinking about upgrading Debian 12 to Debian 13, but what do You think will happen to Home Assistant, will it still work?

Is there a community support thread for us who really like Supervised and would like to continue with it?

So this will be a religious war argument - should or shouldnt be offered (as an exx dev support guy I’m 100% on they did the right thing team for full clarity)

You will be Completely unsupported - on your own.

Supervised is nothin gmore than a build milestone for HAOS so it’ll never go away but dont expect ANY help. Those of us who watch the site - will steer you away. (Because it’s not good to tell your friends and neighbors to do something that might hurt them…)

Probably the most honest answer I can give. I wouldnt. Just haos on a hypervisor and if you need to install stuff install a linux machine next to it in prox IMHO.

I ran Supervised for 2 years and moved to HAOS on prox almost 2 years ago with ZERO issue. IMHO Container haos on your iron is the answer if you dont like them runnign the OS. Why fight the iron.

If you ignore it and go anyway - Aye they be dragons there… Bring flame retardant underwear.
