Access garage or door from voice home assistants Security risk

Hi,

I was thinking the other day if I could ask alexa to open the garage while I am outside. I tries it and it worked. This poses a high security risk, I was wondering what other people are to to mitigate this risk.

I was thinking of presence detection and only activating if your phone is detected(Bluetooth or wifi).

I don’t expose my door or thermostat to Alexa for this reason.

That’s what I’m thinking.

Just wonder if anyone has done some sort of presence detection

This has actually been proven in proof of concepts with ultrasonics so it’s not new. Best practice and mitigation is don’t create the risk in the first place.

Sad thing is if you start looking at any and all of the ways someone could get in to your home, well, it would get a bit daunting.

Yes really true…
