I have an idea that you could use a label as input to the energy dashboard (other entities) instead of adding entities one by one. Would be awesome
If I understand what you mean correctly, you are suggesting to allow adding energy metering devices using labels instead of each device individually.
If so, I was thinking the same as I’d like to label all lights, fans, outlets, etc with generic labels reflecting the category (light, ceiling fan, etc) and then add that category to the energy dashboard so that I can easily see how much energy all my lights use as how much each one uses is less relevant (or only becomes relevant when I am investigating the worst offenders).
Edit: I just resorted to creating a sensor group helper
and listing all my lights in there. I then added that group to the energy dashboard and it works. Labels, however, would be preferred but given those are per device, I wonder if it will work given HA would have to pick the energy entity / entities for that device. If one adds one of those whole house energy meters that have L1, L2 and also the combined energy, it is easy to get bad data if HA just pulls them all in.
9am is when I added the group… so I am guessing that the big red area is all the energy used since last midnight, then after that it is just a slight sliver. The bulk of untracked power is most likely the 2 HVAC systems… project for another day (installing the energy meter in the outdoor panel for all the 240V appliances)…
