Add wall mounted Z-wave devices

Hi,

I’m curious. Most instructions on how to add new nodes in a Z-wave network tells us to move the new node close to the main controller first, then add the nodes.

How do you deal with that when it comes to wall mounted dimmers, switches etc that is attached to the main electric of the house?

A really long USB extension cable?:joy:

In my country we’re not allowed to mess with that ourselves, as long as we’re not an electrician.

Most zwave device support “high-power” inclusion.

I have had a LOT of difference zwave devices and always included/excluded on the location where located… never failed.

You have at least 2 solutions :

  • Plug your module to a temporary power cable close to your controller, include the module, and then only install the module in its final destination
  • Use a ZWave controler that can run on battery like the famous Aeotec Gen 5.

Do not do this with the QT openzwave integration, it will not dicover all zwave capabilites then!

Ah really ? It’s a bug or a ‘feature’ ? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still using ZWave native integration for the moment.

From my understanding, the native integration is still considered Beta, but there is active work on it to get it to be more compatible. We should hopefully see some progress in the next few releases of HA.
