I’m getting started with my HA Green and trying to use the JS-UI addon to talk to my Zwave devices. I’ve successfully configured JS-UI to work with my Zooz Z-wave dongle, and added my first dry contact sensor as visible in JS-UI. But the new sensor does not appear in HA Settings->Devices and Services. Screenshots attached. Is there something I forgot to do? Perhaps install an integration? Thanks!
Nevermind, found it - I’d forgotten to install the Z-wave integration and configure it to talk to ws://a0d7b954-zwavejs2mqtt:3000.
It’s remarkable how cumbersome it is to provision Z-wave in HA. I’m coming from Hubitat Elevation which didn’t require an hour of reading just to turn it on.
Z-Wave JS UI is the “advanced installation”. Compared to the official install method, it would be expected to have a few more steps. Even so, it shouldn’t really take an hour to go through the docs. Which of these steps from the add-on documentation was problematic?
I’m very new to HA, and it took most of the hour just to read about and understand the difference between JS and JS-UI, how to get JS-UI to work with my ZST39 USB radio, to realize that there is a server that must be installed separate from the user interface, etc. In Hubitat it’s all preconfigured. Less all-encompassing but far less effort. All is good now.
The official install method is the “all-encompassing” approach you were looking for, as it’s all guided by a wizard with just a few steps. It will detect your USB stick path and install everything.
However, ZUI currently provides more functionality so IMO you made the choice, at least for now.
