I’ve had some help on this, but, wouldn’t you know it, I’m going to go in a different direction!
I have the HAOS image running on a Raspberry Pi 4 in my house and I have an Aeotec Z-Stick 7 working on one USB port. We have a renovated barn that’s several hundred feet away, so any wireless connection between the two buildings is not possible. (Especially during leaf out!) The barn and house are connected via fiber optic cable and are on the same LAN, sharing the same address space, and any physical separation is transparent to the network.
I have two Z-Stick 7s. My original plan was to put one on a Pi in the barn and use it that way. Believe it or not, I had completely forgotten that I have a MacMini hooked up to the entertainment center in the barn. I put my 2nd Z-Stick 7 into the Mac. When I get a hardware report, I see the Silicon Labs CP2102N device. I read through this page about installing the Z-Stick. Under QUICK START, it talks about a host as a primary controller - I take it that would be Home Assistant or a similar program - and if I don’t have something like that, I need to download the Silicon Labs driver and install it.
I’ve installed the driver. I see nothing under Networking (as mentioned in the QUICK START) part of the guide. There’s nothing else to show the Mac sees this as anything other than the CP2102N in the Z-Stick.
Can I get this 2nd Z-Stick to work on the Mac without having to add a full instance of HA on it? What do I need to do to get this Z-Stick so I can use it from my instance of HA, in the house?
