Adding a Reolink camera to your Home Assistant

I have had this issue twice and I keep forgetting

When adding a Reolink camera using the native integration there is a procedure that needs to be followed otherwise you’ll never get it connected to your Home Assistant.

I am referring to Reolink Wi-Fi Cameras and in my case the RLC-810WA.

To do the integration you need the username, password and the ip address when adding the integration in Home Assistant.

  • Connect your camera to your network switch using the provided network cable
  • Connect the PSU to your camera
  • Open the Reolink APP
  • In the top right corner press the +
  • Scan the QR on the back of the Reolink camera
  • Go through the guide and remember whatever username and password you set up. You will be asked to connect to your Wi-Fi, so have your Wi-Fi name and password ready. At the end of the guide you should have added the camera to your Reolink APP and you should be able to see a live stream of your camera.
  • Disconnect the network cable.
  • Wait a minute or two
  • Open the Reolink APP, find your camera in the overview (If you have more than one) and press the gear icon next to the name.
  • Press the name of the camera (Top)
  • Press Network Information
  • Note the ip address.
  • Open Reolink on your MacBook or Windows PC (Install it if you don’t have it: App & Client - Reolink)
  • On the left press +
  • You should be able to see your camera in the list, press + next to the camera you are working on.
  • Type in your username and password
  • Now you have added your Reolink camera to your iOS or Android APP and to Reolink on your computer (This will provide more control and options, options you do not have on the iOS or Android APP.)
  • Find your camera on the left and press the gear icon.
  • Press Network
  • Press Advanced
  • Toggle ON UPnP
  • Press Server Settings
  • Activate RTMP, HTTP, HTTPS, RTSP and ONVIF (Note, you do not have to activate all of them, it’s personal preference, personally I don’t do HTTP as I try to connect everything with HTTPS)
  • Press Save
  • Go to Home Assistant
  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Devices & Services
  • Press + Add Inetgration
  • Search Reolink
    *Press Reolink IP NVR/camera
  • Type in your username, password and ip address
  • Press Submit

And there we go - You have successfully added your Reolink camera in your Home Assistant.

Good guide.

I had a POE doorbell camera integrated already in the app and home assistant before I hard installed in on the door today. I had the app open when I plugged in the POE cable, but it would not see the video stream at all. I figured my connection was no good and tried for ages. In the end it was basically shut app down and open again and the stream appeared. Very strange quirk

I wish I had had this a few days ago! Took me a while to figure out that I needed the Windows app to change the network protocol settings.

That app should be in the Windows store rather than needing to be downloaded and installed like we had to do in the old days.
