Adding NVME to an existing RPI running HA

Over the past couple of days I’ve created a RPI5 with HA using the RPI imager.

Currently on a 128 sd card, Ive ordered a NVME & hat.

After Ive physically attached the hat and NVME to the RPI, will the card be instantly recognised?

Or, as I suspect, will I have to set up a new image on the newly created pi and storage, and then have to add a new incarnation of HA to it and add all the integrations and adding and esphome cards I’ve spent the few days honing to perfection?

Any tips on upgrading updating etc gratefully received.

Thanks

If you choose to create a new HA installation on the NVMe drive, create a full backup of your existing HA installation first (under Settings->System->Backups), save it on your computer, and then upload and restore it on the new installation. This way you’ll keep all your lovingly crafted cards and so on.

As I cant access sudo through the HA terminal, how or when should I go about applying the Install commands as stated at:

https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/accessories/m2-hat-plus.html#installation

I don’t have the equipment, but I would flash Pi OS on a sdcard and use rpi-image to flash HA on to the NVMe drive. Set the boot order using raspi-config, shutdown and remove sd-card and power the Pi up again.

Remember to create a full backup in HA, and download it first though.

Thanks -

It was a lot simpler than I thought, although some of the integrations had to be reinstalled.

I spent 10 mins waiting to see HA UI appear from the CLI screen, forgetting that its accesssed from a browser.

Its been so long since I’ve created a new HA

Anyway all looks good now
