Adding ZHA crashes fresh HA Yellow install

Hi,

I’m having problems with setting up ZHA on new HA Yellow install. My unit is one from the initial ones, but due few reasons I have not been using it since I got it. But I wanted to move from my VM setup to the bare metal so it is not going to waste but I have problems.

I used freshly created USB drive created with latest Raspberry Pi Imager. I am installing directly to NVMe as described here. I’ve tested using eMMC and it’s the same. I cleared NVMe between reinstalls by putting it in a USB-C enclosure on my PC, and wiping partitions, just in case. Also did the red+blue button after connecting power to clear eMMC.

Everything goes as expected during the install. After completing it and doing the initial user/location steps, after I reboot I end up with following Devices & services:

No ZHA configured by default. If I remember correctly from my previous installs, it was setup after completing the wizard, but I might be mistaken.

Multiprotocol is disabled:

When I do Add integration, search for Zigbee Home Automation`, I am presented with following dialog:
obraz

I pick /dev/ttyAMA1 - Yellow Zigbee module - Nabu Casa and…my system crashes. I get the busy cursor and after a while I see Connection lost. Reconnecting... and it’s dead. I see green led flashing rapidly and yellow much slower, in constant intervals. And nothing happens, it does not come back, same when power cycling the device, I can’t connect to the IP address it was assigned to. So far, the only option is to reinstall… I’ve done this like 10 times already wasting whole day. I searched online, this forum and other places like Reddit and such, bot no luck.

If anyone encountered such problem and was able to fix it, or didn’t but just has an idea? I’m all ears! Thanks in advance!

Well…I’ll kinda reply to myself…

I was able to fix the issue I was experiencing. I remembered that last time I was playing around with moving my installation from a VM to Yellow I was experimenting with multi-protocol radio. I’m not sure it’s related bu I remembered it. So I enabled multi-protocol again. It added all required things and flashed new firmware. I got Thread, Thread Router and was able to add ZHA. Then I removed ZHA and went the steps described here. I had to manually remove Thread integration I believe. When multi-protocol was removed I was able to add ZHA selecting /dev/ttyAMA1 as before and it worked just fine.

I don’t know if this is related, but maybe it will help someone as it fixed the problem for me.
