AdGuard says it works but no ads are blocked

Hi!

I’m running AdGuard add-on. Hassio is in Docker in Ubuntu Server.

To get AdGuard running I followed the steps here: Reddit Post

I thought I’ve had everything correct. AdGuard is up and running:

Router with correct DNS:

But I looks like nothing is getting blocked! Also when I go to https://adguard.com/en/test.html it says “AdGuard is not enabled :(”

So do you have any idea where I go wrong…?

Kind regards,

That test checks if you are using adguard dns servers :

Choose Use the following DNS server addresses and enter these:
IPv4

For “Default” servers:

176.103.130.130
176.103.130.131

You are using 192.168.1.140 as you’re dns server, so the test will fail.

Sorry for the “stupid” question. But where do I set those “Default” servers, in the Add-on?

(Since router must point with DNS to Add-on right?)

There are no stupid questions :slight_smile:

The test checks if you are using the adguard DNS servers, if you don’t use them, it will fail.

I don’t really use the add-on, but I think it replaces the adguard DNS servers with a local managed one.

Oh, ok. But I want to use the add-on, so now it’s not clear for me what to do! :slight_smile:

From the documentation :

Ensure your Home Assistant device has a static IP and static external DNS servers! This is important! You WILL end up having issues if you skip this step. Also, please note, setting a fixed IP in your router is NOT static.

Static IP

Replace the following configuration:

[ipv4]
method=manual
address=192.168.1.111/24;192.168.1.1
dns=176.103.130.130;176.103.130.131

I’m using Hassio… where do I change this?

In the documentation :

Thank you for your patience, but will this work for me running Hassio in Docker and Ubuntu Server?

If your running a Home Assistant Supervised installation on Ubuntu, you should check a Ubuntu manual on how to configure your ip-address/dns. I run Home Assistent Supervised on dietpi and there it is real easy.

I think I know the problem! Router gives two DNS (Where my input is one DNS). It also gives the gateway 192.168.1.1 as DNS. So problem is in router I think…

EDIT: Gave primary and secundary DNS same IP (Hassio) and now it works…

Thank you for your time and patience!

Thx, I had the same issue and put the ip in both primary and secondary worked.
I didnt to the static IP stuff but my DHCP is giving always the same IP to hassio

I’m not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but I spent several days trying to get this to work following the default instructions.

I realized that I needed to open port 53 over udp to my router in order for it to work.
I am not sure if that was always a requirement, or if it should be a requirement.

My setup is Raspberry Pi with HA installed and the AdGuard Home addon-on and integration installed.

My router is Google Wifi
