Adjusting the fan speed of the Raspberry Pi

Hi everyone,

I’m a noob. I’ve got Hassos up and running and I’m loving it, except the only ethernet in the house is in our living room and we can hear the fan on the pi a little too well. The pi’s fan is just hooked up to pins 4 and 6. Is there a way to control the speed of the fan using PWM without adding any more hardware?

This seems to come close, but it seems to rely on python in a way that Hassos wasn’t designed for. After trying to run some python commands using the “Terminal and SSH” add-on, it’s pretty clear that Hassos doesn’t use python the way that I had expected because it says all the commands aren’t recognized, as if python isn’t installed.

Edit: It’s a pi 4

Do you need the fan? i dont have one, and i never get values above 65 degress C

Good point, as of now, probably not! I had just read that they’re needed for the pi 4. I’m still only running a couple of things, so I’ll have to check the temp.

If they were needed they would be supplied that way. I wouldn’t stress about it.

Unplugged the fan is been at ~50°C ever since.
