I’m building a home and am thinking through the audio. The few televisions in the house will have sound bars and there’s a theater room that will have its own custom setup.
What I’m trying to think through are the areas where I know we’ll want to play music for casual listening: the bar/rec area, on the back patio, the living room, etc. In these ares in our home right now, we have portable speakers of various sizes/quality. I’m leaning towards in-ceiling speakers in these areas for the new place unless I’m off-base thinking that’s the “best” thing to do in all cases.
Beyond that, (and excuse my lack of knowledge about home theater tech/architecture - not my strong suit!), it obviously needs to have great support by HA. It also needs to have Google Home support (I suppose this could be strung up via HA but it’s be nice to be able to say “Hey Google, play music by Drake on all the speakers”).
So I’m guessing what I’m after is a centralized piece of hardware that all of these ambient speakers are tied to that I can use voice (not necessarily via a microphone as part of the speaker) and HA to have full control over. Maybe Sonos is the answer here? Maybe some other Google Assistant-enabled receiver?
In a perfect world, I’d be able to use any ceiling speakers and sound bars I want and they’d all be controllable by this central device. Is there such a setup?
TYIA!
