since my hdd crapped on me and I have to set my server from the ground up, I though I would rethink some of my stuff a little.
I have a cheap Chinese hdr with all the fancy Chinese apps (works 2 times out of 10) and using their servers for p2p which I didn’t like from the start, so I enabled the ftp to upload recorded motions to my home server ftp on which I’ve created a script that monitors the ftp folder for new files, uses ffmpeg to extract screenshots from the video every x seconds then send me an email with those images attached and finally cleans everything and compresses the video file with the photos and archive them. as you have figured out, it has nothing to do with home assistant and might be messy a bit giving the amount of emails i get due to cats or shadows moving. I did however modified the script a little bit so it publishes to mqtt server that a motion has been detected so that in the future if i want to automate anything with motion being detected I can.
My question is…any advice on how i could me this better? other than the obvious one to get a better hdr or nvr?they are quite expensive and along with the cameras and I wouldn’t know where to start.
thanks in advance and sorry for such long and unrelated question.
