AEON Labs ZW095 Home Energy Meter Gen5 doesn't report automatically

Hi there,

I’m back to Home Assistant after a few months of moving houses, etc. I have reinstalled my Raspberry Pi 3b+ with the last version of HA and ZWave JS for my Aeotec Gen5 stick. I have a bunch of Smart Switch 7 plugs which are working fine (and reporting values every 60 seconds as per the configuration).

For the ZW095 Home Energy Meter Gen5 though, impossible to get it report automatically. I’m getting one reading right after pairing the device and that’s it. I removed it from the ZWave network, reset it to factory defaults, added it again but same results. I had a look to the parameters, everything seems fine to me, I just lowered report interval to 60 seconds instead of 3600 default value.

In ZWave JS, the parameter updates are done without error. I can see the node alive with no apparent issue. I read some things about the Groups but I have no idea how to assign my controller to any of those groups so it gets some automatic reports (if this was the issue).

Does anyone know what’s cooking here?

Since I don’t use HA w. ZWaveJS (I use HA with ZWaveJS2MQTT via MQTT), I can’t tell you how to configure or read the settings of the HEM with HA so I presume you have figured that part out.

If you haven’t already, there are lots of settings for the HEM, so its good to spend a lot of time going through the manual.

  • Config Param3 is probably the first one to check. If it is enabled, then you only get reports when there is configurable amount of change in the measurement. In your case, you should probably disable it so you get periodic reports as well.
  • Groups: If you want periodic reports, you’ll need to configure which measurements you want to be in a group, and then configure that group with a timer interval to report on. It could be that the defaults work for you and nothing else needs to be configured.

Hi there,

In the meantime, I have reset all my ZWave gear (controller included) and switched to the ZWave JS to MQTT add-on instead of the official one.

All my Smart Switch 7 plugs are now paired in S2 Authenticated, leaving the Home Energy Meter only on S0/legacy mode. The auto reports from the HEM worked out of the box, I just changed the report frequency to 60 seconds for Group 1.

I think my initial problem was that something else than my controller was registered in HEM Group 1 (or nothing actually).

What an unpredictable setup  But it does work now!

Cheers,

G.

Hi Guillaume,
I have the same problem as you with ZW095: impossible to get report automatically. have you understood the problem better since 2022 ?
what do you mean “my controller was registred en HEM group” ?

Best regards. Eric
