Aeotec Heavy Duty Smart Switch - Manual button?

Is there any way to provide a manual on/off for this switch? I see no bypass leads for adding an external manual switch to override the ZWave/remote control

This device does have a manual button ‘under the cover’ , but once one closes this off, that is inaccessible. Has anyone found a way to make that accessible (drilling a hole into the cover, inserting some third party button extension and maybe covering it with some elastic [ Durex? ]

Sure, that device should then not be placed in a location where it could be subject to moisture/steam etc, but in my case it would not be anyway

Would not it be easier to use some wall mounted smart switch and and program it to toggle the Aeotec? You could the place both anywhere…

Sure, but I also want a solution if the HA service is completely dead.

If you pick a Zwave switch, you can use Zwave associations, that works independent on HA.

But does that still require the controller Zstick to be active?

No Zwave associations are direct device-to-device communications without the controller necessarily requiring to be online.

Here, this explains it a bit better Z-Wave Associations – Z-Wave Outlet
