Aeotec TriSensor, Z-Wave Plus S2 Stinks

Hello, I was excited to try the Aeotec TriSensor, Z-Wave Plus Motion Sensor. After a day, the motion got locked on, pulling the battery fixes that for about 30 hours but then its stuck again. I have a dome motion sensor that works flawlessly but the mount doesn’t stay in place.

I also tried the GE motion only sensor and that didnt play well with HA either.

It looks like zooz has a new motion sensor out with good reviews.
Can anyone recommend a solid z-wave motion sensor with luminance.

I have many of the Zooz 4in1 Sensors, I like the motion detection. The luminance is ok, it reports pretty slowly and it is reported in percentage, which leaves something to be desired.

Adding some TriSensor-specific notes here for future reference.

I found I had to enable the SENSOR_BINARY_REPORT parameter on the device to get it to behave like my other motion sensors (e.g. Zooz or Aeotec MultiSensor 6). Also it wasn’t taking the commands so I had to manually pop the back cover and wake the device up, then send its commands.

More info in the support docs.

Hi.

I just set one of these up today. Initially I wasn’t getting much and the status on the Z-Wave card was “Initializing”. I thought I’d wait for a bit but hours later it was still “initializing” and I wasnt getting any reading or state history on the temp, lux or motion. So I popped the top and pressed the button in the corner and updated a few configurations to send Lux and Temperature a faster intervals.

Now the Z-wave card report Sleeping.

and I seem to be getting some readings at the moment…

So my default binary sensor enabled per rompca7 above isn’t working at all.

But the “burglar” is

Temp and Luminosity seem to be updating OK.
Initially the temperature seemed to have a few degrees of error, now its with 0.5 degree F compared to the ecobee sensor.
I don’t have another luminosity sensor to compare though.

Interestingly, I had similar issues with binary sensor enabled. I removed the node, did a factory reset by pushing the button on the device (per the doc’ at the link above), and then all is working as expected with binary sensor DISABLED. Even Aeotec tech support recommended that setting to be enabled (I opened a ticket with them), but disabled worked for me.

Mine is… Flaky as well.

Enabled the binary sensor for motion reports, and I’m getting motion reports. Got the temperature sensor working (although it seems high, I’ll have to play with the offset). Cannot, however, get any reading besides 0 from the light/luminance sensor. It’s reporting (the sensor history is updating regularly), but it alway reports 0.

Any ideas? I’ll reach out to aeotec support.

Also, does anyone know if a motion sensor trigger forces a full update of temp and luminance? Meaning, when it triggers motion, does it also update temp and luminance at the same time? Otherwise the default hour reporting seems very infrequent.

I’ve gone through the thread and tried everything. In the end, the motion sensor only detects motion a single time and stays on. Never goes off. PITA for a device that should be plug and play.

Edited 11/7/2019 : Aeotec support was great and only provided the same recommendations as in this thread. However, this is where Aeotec falls short… Aeotec stopped responding once RMA to be generated.

I have the binary sensor “enabled” and the motion and temp work fine. What I am noticing is the sensor becomes locked and no longer reports after two days or so. I have to pull the battery and then it starts working.

Anyone else notice this?

Known issue. I fought with this for several days and finally reached out to Aeotec and they sent me a new one. Same results as the original one. Latest firmware on both. Problem is, the device never wakes back up. Have to open and wake the device manually.

Yes, I even changed the state to “enabled”, “disabled”, multiple resets, etc.
