So have you ever tried to search ebay for dual white LED strips? I have, it’s not easy.
Some vendors (specifically Arilux) use RGBWW to mean Red Green Blue White White, which is what I want. However, it seems like every ebay led-strip supplier takes it to mean Red Green Blue Warm White, which is not what I want.
Therefore my question is rather simple. Has anyone found any affordable strips that is RGB and Warm and Cool White? I want both whites so that i can adjust ambience, the RGB part is mostly for fun.
For ease of use I would like them to be able to be controlled by an Arilux 08 or such…
Well… That’s different from supplier to supplier.
I have found that the string that gets the best hits on ebay is “RGB CCT”. Where CCT defines that it’s a dual-led cold/warm chip. (I don’t actually know what CCT stands for though)
Other suppliers use RGBWW to indicate a RGB+white strip with a warm white temperature, and RGBW to indicate a RGB+white strip with a cold/natural white temperature.
The Arilux line of controllers use RGBWW to indicate RGB+white+white, i.e. a 5-channel controller. However, I plan to see if I can implement a firmware for the cheapest Arilux-controller (RGB/3-channel) that let’s you control a CCT strip (cold + warm white) using two of the “color”-channels. Haven’t gotten any code down yet though.
What I’m still missing though, is the holy grail of led-strips (imho). The CCT strip with a RA of 95+ (or at least 90+) at an affordable price. (~$20 for 5m?)
very clear … and confusing lol. I have these as drivers,
Produktkatalog - dresden elektronik which have RGB exits plus W (only 1) plus the power
and these LEDS (with 5 pin RGB W ( RGB cold white, not RGBWW warm white)
Yeah. As far as I can see it is only 4-channel. (5 pin).
You can get warm white from mixing RGB, but I think the RA/CRI would be really bad … no really, REALLY bad…
They claim the controller can do both RGB control and white temperature control. But with only one channel for white you would have to create the warm-white using the cold-white together with the RGB, which is not preferable.
I’m looking for the same thing… TPlink claims to do it with their new strips, but I think it’s the same trick of using the RGB to emulate warm white. I’d much prefer a dedicated warm and cool white LED alongside the RGB but I haven’t found that yet…
Another option might be just to go with separate strips, one for RGB and one for warm and cool white, and just mix them as desired with automations.
That’s a nice one! Any idea what the light strip they use in the video is? It’s the only one I’ve seen so far that appears to have dedicated LEDs for RGB and one each for warm and cool white.
EDIT: Nevermind, found the link from the reddit thread here: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06XCGKM3Z/?tag=gledoptor-20&sa-no-redirect=1
You can use one controller to drive 3 led strips. One RGB, one Warm White and one Cold White. Just take care that you don’t “use up” all the current available
I would guess that you can just parallel all the commons and connect the colors as normal.
Also make sure that they are all either common anode. Although I’m originally a software guy, and have gotten shocked by 230V twice… So bear that in mind when taking my advice
I have been through and I find Zigbee+Deconz unbeatable. Try it you will love it (one gateway for Hue, Tradfri, Xiaomi plus a bunch of other manufacturers) and perfectly working off the cloud
