AI from home cameras to trigger automations

Hello All,

As my planning for my new home intensifies I am looking for some working examples of how people might be using what is captured in their external cameras (person, object, vehicle registration, alarm etc) and using that information to trigger an automation.

I had been looking at a UniFY Protect / Network setup. The feature set might be poor at the moment so I am looking at augmenting that setup with an intermediary which will interpret the video, find the trigger, pass that onto HA and then do something with it.

One practical example would be:

My car pulls up to the gate. The camera alerts, passes the image to ‘something?’ which then scans my rego (and maybe even checks to see if my phone has identified on the network), then passes that info to HA which I can then use to open the gate. Waits 2 mins, then closes the gate (which will only close if something is not blocking it).

Lot’s more I could do with facial recognition for person identification and or identify the dog at night taking a whizz (so don’t alarm) etc.

I am not sure what software I would use to do this but I am sure its possible -which is why I am reaching out. Does anyone else do this?
