Ajax Online Smart Remote

I came across this on Amazon recently, I’ve searched the forums here for it and not found any reference.

It looks like a nice device, so would It take much to get it working or has anybody used it?

This company (Ajax Online) has a range of sensors that are of interest, and well-priced. Their hub uses zigbee, but I’m concerned a search brings up only this thread, when it comes to this company’s products and Home Assistant. I was poised to buy a Pi and dive into HA, but this has given me pause.

To further add to the confusion, there’s a company called Ajax that makes smart alarm products that are well loved, and there’s plenty of mention of those here on the HA forums, and apparently some community members have made a lot of headway getting aspects of that system to work with HA, but with some crippling limitations imposed by the company itself: they don’t expose an API that gives access to the sensors themselves, so no way to use a detected fire with one of their smoke sensors, to trigger custom responses in HA, for instance.

I don’t know how much relation there is between the Ajax that makes that alarm system, and Ajax Online. Anyone with some light to shine, please shine it!

I’ve received one of these Ajax remotes with their LED lighting strip kit.

The instructions that come with it allow it to adopt other Ajax Online Zigbee devices (and based on my own experiments, some gledopto branded RGBCWW bulbs too), but doesn’t describe a ‘pairing mode’ that would allow it to be linked directly to Home Assistant’s Zigbee Integration or linked via some other platform like Tuya. I only received the device yesterday - so early days of playing with it. I’ve emailed Ajax Online to see if they’re able to provide any additional details of how it might be linked to other devices - if I get more info I’ll post it here.

Such a shame it isn’t set up for easy pairing with hubs / gateways out of the box. It really would be a GREAT device for linking to Home Assistant if it can be managed, as the buttons and sliders would provide a wealth of options for controlling scenes / devices etc.

I have just bought one and as described I cannot see a way to pair this with a gateway… Which is a bloody pain because I was hoping to use these with my existing lights. I guess if there is no integrations other than with their own lighting then I am going to have to return it.

On a different note, are there any other similar zigbee colour switches out there to be aware of?
