Are there any benefits in using an alert over an automation other than being able to specify dynamic delay times of the notifications? For example does an alert “cost less” to run behind the scenes than an automation? Other than delay times, an automation seems to be much more feature-rich in the follow up actions than an alert. Is there anything else that I’m missing or not thinking of when looking at these two solutions?
Alerts are just a simple solution for people who don’t want or need to automate a custom solution. You won’t notice any performance cost difference.
