Alerts or Automation

Hello,
I am looking to create alerts that send me messages via MQTT when door sensors are opened/closed or are left open for a certain period of time. The idea is that if the door is left open for longer than 30 minutes, it would repeat the alert.

I would also like to create a humidity alert for all humidity sensors that would send repeated messages every hour when the humidity is above a threshold.

I’m confused as to whether I should use “Alerts” or “Automations” to achieve this. Also how can I select all humidity sensors by category/class instead of individually specifying each sensor?

I would appreciate any advice in this regard and thank you in advance

Use alerts for individual devices that only send repeated notifications.

Use automations for multiple devices or for more complex actions as well as repeated notifications. Text
