Alexa Dots not showing up as MediaPlayers when using Nabu Casa

Hello all,
I am paying for the Nabu Casa subscription to keep the cloud setup simple and secure. I design hardware for a living, so I will leave the cloud security to the experts. As such, I am trying to NOT install things that force me to bypass security and install 3rd party mystery HACS repositories.

I have 5 different Amazon Echo Dots around the house and I would like to use them to announce TTS (text to speech) things. I cannot get TTS to work and I think it is because I have no valid entities that start with “media_player.*”

I have run through this:

…they say that “media_player” is an available domain, but there is no example of how to set this up.
I have already followed the guide and I already am able to control HA entities by voice using the Cloud integration and the “HA skill”.

What am I missing? I know there are many, many outdated approaches that were valid BEFORE Nabu Casa (HACS/Alexa_Media_Player/etc)…but what is the official way to do it WITH Nabu Casa?

PS- I do NOT have any other Media_Player devices setup…that is why I want to use the echos already spread around the house.

PSS - This seems to handle only the TTS part, not the Media_Player part:

PSSS - I added this to my Cloud.yaml, but it didnt seem to help:

Alex echo devices are not really media players per se, so though you are avoiding it, you do need to use a custom integration to achieve that. There is the widely used “Alexa media player” custom integration available in HACs which would allow you to use them for tts. https://github.com/custom-components/alexa_media_player

  • Alexa devices not being media players is strange to me…they are speakers that we use to play music all the time…hmmmm…
  • I guess I just thought playing_media/tts would be part of the native NabuCasa integration…sorry for being a noob!!
  • per your nudge, I did install HACS and the Alexa_media_player custom integration…it was quite a journey, but it is working great!!!

PS - my Daughter and I got Alexa to suffocate, then turn into an Alien, then be transported into the upside-down using this:
